Manufacturing, Health Care Industries Key To Economy
State Representative Diana Maldonado toured several Round Rock businesses Thursday that contribute to the “health” of the local economy. As the second fastest growing county in Texas, and 9th in the nation, Williamson County has attracted not only new families, but new businesses as well. Consistently ranked by top magazines and experts as a great place to do business, companies of all sizes call Round Rock home.
Teco-Westinghouse has more than 100 years of experience in motor design and application. Their Round Rock facility manufactures motors, generators, drives, and power solutions for businesses across the world. Maldonado toured the Teco-Westinghouse headquarters along with Charley Ayres of the Round Rock Chamber of Commerce, to get an inside look at the exciting products and technologies that are being manufactured.
“The amazing work of the employees at the Teco-Westinghouse Headquarters in Round Rock truly is powering this nation,” Maldonado said. “The manufacturing industry is an integral component of our nation’s commerce both at home and abroad. We are fortunate to have a world leader in electric motors and generators in Central Texas that is on the cutting edge of technology and innovation. As the only wind turbine manufacturing facility in Texas, Teco-Westinghouse truly is leading the charge to help reduce our nations burden on foreign energy sources by creating our own wind power right here in Texas.”
Maldonado also visited Scott & White Healthcare – Round Rock to learn more about the work being done at the hospital. Mr. Ernie Bonvio, CEO of Scott & White Healthcare – Round Rock, led Maldonado on a tour of the 68-acre health care facility.
“We are fortunate to have so many quality health care facilities in Central Texas,” Maldonado said. “Our hospitals and clinics play a huge role in the local economy because a healthy community is more engaged and productive. While the economic impact of a hospital is often gauged in dollars like any other business, its true impact is on the people they care for.”
In addition, Maldonado helped celebrate the ribbon cutting for a new small business as well as the grand opening event of the Round Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau offices. ARTSPACE opened its doors to the public Thursday and will highlight the work of local artists.
