Rep. Maldonado Endorsed by Texas Medical Association’s TEXPAC

May 25th, 2010 — Office of Rep. Diana Maldonado

State Representative Diana Maldonado (HD-52) recently received the “strong and resounding” endorsement of the TEXPAC, the political action committee for the Texas Medical Association (TMA). Maldonado’s commitment to Texas patients and the health care community during the 81st Legislative Session yielded strong results that will ensure access to quality health care for Texans.

“It is an honor to receive the strong endorsement of the Texas Medical Association who fights to ensure high quality health care for all Texans,” said Maldonado. “On issues ranging from increasing the physician workforce and providing clear health insurance comparisons to long-term health issues such as fighting obesity and making Texas smoke free, TMA is helping to lead the charge for a healthier Texas.

Maldonado helped lead the efforts to pass 2 major bills that would greatly benefit the 179 medically underserved counties in Texas – including Williamson County. Texas currently lacks the number of graduate medical education (GME) slots necessary to help care for Texas’ rapidly growing population. By increasing the funding for GME students, we can ensure that physicians can complete their medical education in Texas which leads more of them practicing here. The creation of the Texas A&M Health Science Center in Round Rock provides an excellent opportunity for Texas students to finish their training in Williamson County all while ensuring a healthier community.

“Texas physicians are pleased to endorse Rep. Diana Maldonado in her bid for reelection to the Texas House of Representatives. Representative Maldonado proved last session that she will seek solutions to ensure that our patients have access to the health care they need,” said Susan Strate, MD, chair of TEXPAC, the Texas Medical Association’s political action committee. “Round Rock is a burgeoning medical community, and we look forward to working with Representative Maldonado in the coming session to ensure that our future physicians have adequate training opportunities in Central Texas.”

TEXPAC’s endorsement joins other state health care organizations in their support for Rep. Maldonado including the Texas Hospital Association, Texas Pharmacy Association and the Texas Academy of Family Physicians.

“Texas A&M Health Science Center, along with all of the wonderful health care facilities in Williamson County, contributes greatly to the quality of life and production in our schools, businesses and community,” said Maldonado. “Our children, seniors and families rely on health care professionals each day for quality routine and emergency care and I hope Texas emerges as a leader in the medical and technology industries that will impact the nation and globe.”
