Campaign Rally and Blockwalk an Overwhelming Success

August 16th, 2010 — Office of Rep. Diana Maldonado

Diana Maldonado, State Representative from HD-52 today thanked the 70+ people who turned out to help her contact voters in the district. This past Saturday, the Diana Maldonado campaign hosted a rally followed by a volunteer canvass and phone bank.

Beginning at 9:00am on Saturday, the event started over coffee and Round Rock donuts with a campaign rally in the Williamson County Coordinated Campaign Office where supporters visited with Diana Maldonado and local Democratic candidates Kurt Kuhn, Judy Jennings, Jim Stauber, and Jeff Maurice. Also in attendance were special guest Andrea White, wife of gubernatorial candidate Bill White and local elected officials Jessica Stempko and Carl Wake

Paul Stempko, the 2nd Vice Chair of the Williamson County Democratic Party introduced Maldonado and Andrea White and led the supporters in a call to action. Diana spoke about the importance of coming together in the spirit of getting Democrats elected throughout Williamson County.

“We are truly moving forward in WilCo and we cannot afford to backtrack. It is through the support of people such as yourselves and at all levels of government that we can begin to have an open, honest dialogue about the issues facing our community,” Maldonado said.

The event then shifted into a large volunteer effort, with people either out walking alongside Diana in neighborhoods throughout Round Rock or on the phones contacting voters. With the help of the hard-working volunteers, the campaign was able to contact over 1,000 residents.

“I am very grateful to everyone who supports my campaign, and excited to see the enthusiasm that is building up in the district as a result of our voter contact program. Getting feedback from constituents is one of the most critical aspects of being your State Representative,” said Maldonado.

This Saturday’s event was the largest turnout thus far in the campaign, but it is merely one piece of Diana’s voter outreach program, which has included volunteer canvass and phonebank events since June of 2010.
