Embracing Your Call to Leadership

Updated: Jun 26

Here’s what I want you to know: You don’t have to decide today.

What you can do today is start becoming informed. Learn what it takes to run for office. Discover what it means to step into public service and how campaigns work from the inside out.

That’s the beauty of preparation. Whether you ultimately decide to run or not, you’ll emerge as a stronger, more confident leader. You will be better equipped to advocate for your community, shape conversations, and uplift the issues you care about.

Don’t wait to feel “ready” to start preparing. Become informed, explore your options, and let that clarity guide you forward. The journey to leadership begins with small steps.

The Value of Preparation

Preparation is not just about gathering facts; it’s about building confidence. As you learn more, you will understand the process better. You will see that running for office is not reserved for a select few. It is a possibility for anyone willing to step forward.

Start by reading about past campaigns. Look at successful leaders and analyze their strategies. What worked for them? What challenges did they face? What lessons can you apply to your own journey?

Researching these elements will provide vital context. It will empower you to develop your unique approach. Your story is important, and it deserves to be told.

What Candidate School Means to Me

When I created Candidate School, I didn’t just want to teach people how to run for office—I wanted to help them discover what they’re capable of.

For me, this work is deeply personal. When I first ran for office, I had no political background—just a strong desire to make a difference in my community. I know what it feels like to step into unfamiliar territory. Navigating uncertainty and summoning the determination to move forward has shaped me as a leader. It’s why I’m so passionate about helping others take their first step.

Candidate School is my way of passing on everything I’ve learned—the wins, the hard lessons, and the moments that shaped me as a leader—so you don’t have to figure it all out alone.

Empowering Women in Leadership

My hope is that this course helps women:

  • Find the courage to say yes to leadership

  • Step into public spaces with clarity and confidence

  • Know they belong in every room where decisions are made

Because when more women lead, we all win. The benefits of diverse leadership extend far beyond individual aspirations. They create ripples of change in communities, inspiring future generations.

Taking the First Step

Taking the first step can be daunting. It can provoke feelings of self-doubt and hesitation. However, let those feelings be motivation instead of barriers. Embrace the uncertainty and channel it into action.

Start by having conversations with people who inspire you. Ask them about their journeys. Understand their motivations and the obstacles they overcame. Hearing these stories can provide clarity and determination.

Furthermore, engage with local organizations. Volunteer for causes you are passionate about. This grassroots involvement helps you understand the issues firsthand while building necessary skills.

Remember, you're not alone on this journey. Many people share your ambitions and dreams. Connect with them. Form a support network. Together, you can navigate the challenges and celebrate the victories.

Conclusion: Leading with Confidence

In conclusion, you have the power to lead. You don't need to wait for the perfect moment or feel entirely ready. The most important step is to start preparing. Equip yourself with knowledge and experience, and you will find your footing.

Embrace the journey, and keep moving forward. Each step you take brings you closer to your goal. Your community is waiting for leaders like you—ready to uplift and inspire.
